I have PM-1127 lathe and I indicated by setting an indicator on the carriage, and moving the carriage while the dial indicator is on the tailstock quill. I got .015 difference between 3.5 inches along the quill by moving the carriage back and forth.
But when I put the indicator on the quill with the quill all the way inside the tailstock and if I move the tailstock handwheel to push the quill all the way out, I'm only getting .0005
What's going on here? Which is the correct way of indicating to see if the tailstock is straight to the ways?
