PM 1236T - What TIR for chuck are you seeing?

Money put towards a good chuck is money well spent. If the spindle is the lathe's heart, the chuck is its hands. Steady hands are needed for precision.

Agreed. That's why I spent the Big Bucks (for me) to put a 8 1/4" Pratt Burnered set right on my 1340GT. It just seemed kinda silly to spend the money to get a quality lathe and then throw a junk chuck on it.

I also have an 8" six jaw Pratt Burnerd. I bought it used for a few hundred, but it is night and day different than my other chucks. I even use my four jaw less these days, because the set-tru holds center so well. I really enjoy using it. If we spend several thousand on a lathe, it only makes sense to spend a little more on a good chuck. My TIR is around 0.0005 throughout the scroll on the used late 1980s PB, either I hit the lottery with the chuck or my dial indicator is broke. Maybe it is a testament to quality.
