Pressing "blind" Bearings- Order Of Operation

well actually I am not the one to ask as I have never really been able to tell by spark. I go by what I buy and mark everything when it comes in. if I don't need a special material for something I just grab from my scrap pile.
 
Or you can usually take emery cloth to the spindle and make it a push fit. That does away with the need to hammer the spindle into the center race. Of course, you got to make sure the over-sized spindle is not there to expand the center bearing race to remove excess bearing clearances. Some designs may use a tight spindle in place of a expensive close clearance bearing.
 
I vote for the heat and freezer method.........thats how we install ring gears
