Question on workholding technique

Thanks guys. You all confirmed what my "guess" was. I had planned on using a steady rest and a bull nose but failed to mention it. Oh, and my 4-jaw chuck. (Maybe I'm not as clueless as I sound. :p:biggrin:)

I really like that boring setup Big Bore. Unfortunately I don't have a boring bar go the distance but will have to swap ends of the piece to do the other end. That should be sufficient given the odd little project I have going. Here is a cut-away:



I'm making the "outer"/long threaded tube that will screw down in to the base nut. As you can see I will need to bore the ID on each end to a certain size as well as bore the inner ID even more. The inner ID doesn't need to be concentric or even accurate, it is just providing some extra clearance for the "stop" on the inner screw.

No matter what this should be "interesting" for me to tackle. :thinking:
