I saw this today - others may know about it.
This is a video of a substantial mod to the 7x mini-lathe compound adjustment procedure. I don't particularly mind the factory design, but this is a great idea. I have my compound set back via another set of hold down screws, so I will carefully measure to see about this design's viability (If I even want to try it).
