I got the clamps machined yesterday, so today I tackled putting the Albrecht back together. The chuck came with new replacement bearings (25). Seems like there’s space for another, but it seems to work ok with 25. I used my clock lubricants and oilers, including a thick synthetic oil/grease for the bearings.

Just got love great WORKMANSHIP even in a drill chuck. I've had one ever , I disassembled it once in forty years . Then it didnt really need it . Just some chip got jammed up and I figured it may have left some internally . King of chucks

Agreed, nice job, Evan. How does it work?

Nice work!. I thought that I would link the video from Stan, since he was also wondering if there was a missing bearing due to the gap. So it looks like you have answered the question in case others decide to tackle theirs.

The space for the bearing balls is normal. This allows the balls to move without binding. There are 25 BB's for every Albrecht. You're OK. Nice work.

When I rebuilt the used Albrecht O bought at auction, it only had 24 balls in it! Best I can figure, someone took it apart and lost one at some point. I bought new ball bearings from MSC and put 25 in. Those are good chucks.

Evan, today I rebuilt a 1/2” Albrecht chuck for a friend. It had (25) 4mm steel balls…Dave
