I got tired of the sloppy fitting bolt handle on my 597. It shows significant wear after only about 500 rounds. I decided to make a new version to try and eliminate the fit issues. You can see how much wear there is on the original here.
I used piece of 3/8" drill rod and milled out the flat section that fits into the bolt but made it longer to use the entire length of the slot to add stability then turned it to 5/16" and knurled a round handle. I made the dimensions of the flat portion to a much tighter fit in the bolt than the original.
Here you can see the difference in the way it fits the bolt compared to the original.
I cut the length of the handle part to 1" and driled a 3/16" hole 3/4" deep to lighten it. Here you can see the finished product.
It fits much better and shows very little movement in the bolt compare to the original.
