Has anyone made a column spacer for a RF30 round column mill-drill? Been thinking about buying a CNC X/Y table instead of a full conversion. The downside is the X/Y table uses up 6" of vertical space. I have no problem with making a 6" spacer but was looking for input on what others have done. I thought about making a longer column but extending the head lifting rack may be more trouble than its worth. The rack teeth are slightly slanted not straight like a typical rack gear. My plan is to use either heavy wall square or rectangular tubing or fabricate a spacer from 1/2 to 3/4 inch steel plate then machine to fit. Has anyone had any issues with rigidity using a spacer?Your input is appreciated.
