Jim Dawson mentioned these recently (Another Power Drawbar Thread), but rather than hijack there I'll start new here.

The concept intrigues me: I own some Tormach QC tooling, but that still requires using the drawbar. The Royal system seems way more evolved. I'll admit to weakness regarding "a better mousetrap" products. So.....

Anybody own these? Do they meet the claimed runout? Issues with rigidity? Are they really as expensive as the list prices shown on Jim's link?

David Best the Royal system and likes it, see post below. If you go this route I would purchase from Rotagrip in the UK and save a bundle (you also do not pay VAT), a number of us have ordered from them and they have pretty fast shipping. Royal products are quite evolved and high end. There is also the Ultron Snap Change R8 Tool Change System. I seem to recall Iscar and Collis Tool also has a quick change R8 system.

I just use an R8 power drawbar system, I find it fast enough and works well. I do not see as much different then a quick change system if one is using dedicated R8 holders. My prior mill which did not have a power drawbar, I found an ER32 setup to work better than manually changing the R8 collets. The one benefit of dedicated holders is that the you do not have end mills dropping out of the collets when they are loosened.

Thanks for the links, mksj.

I did a couple of searches before I posted, apparently with all the wrong words!
