Just picked up a Select Machine Tool lathe (model 816b) which is a Southbend 9 clone. Some things a similiar and some are different. I am struggling with the lathe's spindle taper. Is appears to be some odd collet holder rather than a standard M3 taper. Has anyone else had experience with this machine?

Hi John
Congrats on your acquisition. Any chance the spindle taper is damaged? Can you accurately measure the diameter at 2 known points? ie 5 mm in from the mouth and then again 20, or more, mm in from the mouth? With accurate measurements you could use trig to calculate the taper.

Cheers Phil
