A couple years ago we replaced our furnace and air conditioner. The furnace was still working fine, but the AC compressor died. rather than put a new AC unit in a 32 year old furnace we decided to replace them both. I kept the furnace fan and motor assembly with the intention of using it as an air mover.

The day finally came when I mounted it on a dolly and wired it up. It isn't fancy, but should do the job. The unit has a 4 speed motor, and puts out 1,600 cfm on the highest speed. The dolly might not have been the best choice for a mounting platform. I just used it because I had it, and thought it would make the unit more portable. While it is portable, it might be a bit too portable. On the highest speed it moves itself backward unless the dolly wheels are blocked.

I do have another unit I'll be assembling later this fall. I'll have to consider a different mounting platform

It's not all that pretty, but it is functional. Here are a few pictures:

Build a stop for the back of it on a handle bar so you can move it, lock it all in one quick motion.
