[solved] Why Postage Stamps Cost So Much

I that cold rolled rounds??

Years ago I had a source on Linotype (heavy lead/tin typeset for making boolets), I shipped it all over in large flat rates at 70 lbs each. I made a cheap wood box out of 1/4" paneling and 1/2" Osb, wood glued and air stapled together, then I put some glue in the flat rate box dropped the wood box in filled it with Linotype and glued top together. Never had on box arrive damaged, a couple buyers complained it was difficult to open. One buyer knocked his second one of the work bench to see if it would bust open, it survived

they are indeed cold rolled rounds
the envelope was wrapped entirely with fiberglass reinforced tape
you can see on the left side of the package where the steel wore through the envelope but not through the tape.

Happy New Year all

Jeez, why can't I find something like this in the maritimes?

Shipping costs just kill everything and drops are sold at the by the foot/inch rate like regular stock.

And people wonder why I'm reworking scrap all the time.....machining stuff is not an inexpensive endeavour around these parts. Almost makes me want to go in to a machining business. Just not enough industry here to support it I guess. You're lucky to even keep a welding shop afloat. Even they have to take every scrap and crap job that comes along....:blue:

I get similar service at similar rates by ordering from Speedy Metals and specifying Spee-Dee Delivery Service (upper Midwest only).

Even with free shipping it would be nice if the vendor's shipping folks would use a bit of common sense and package it in a proper box.
One can only imagine the collateral damage that package caused to other packages and the handling systems along the way.
And then there's the personal that have to handle it. Anything over 10lbs and I always slap HEAVY labels all over.
Now I know what smash our holiday cheese cake from Harry & David's...
