Here are some of my earlier woodcarvings and turnings when I was younger--they are all out of single pieces of wood and done by hand with knives and gouges-- no power tools--now I have all the power tools to do things faster and more detail, but after getting to 70 my eyesight is needing help---one thing I like about wood is the nice grains and smells when you are working with it--shoe polish was my favorite for staining and polishing-----I think alot of us older folks started out without power tools---but it sure is rewarding to gather as many now as we can squeeze into our shops----you can see that one of the small mans head is a carving out of very hard bone--a deer antler--the other small head is apricot wood----my favorite woods to carve were the hard oaks,elms and hackberry--they all have the nice wavy grains-----Dave
