South Bend Lathe has Chatter

Thank you Bob for suggesting checking the gap under the T-Nut.

Roger, I know that problem well because I made the same mistake with my lathe when I first got it and installed a QCTP for the 4 way post it came with. I machined a new t-nut with a tight fit to all the dimensions of the slot in the compound, with very tight tolerances. I was really proud of my work until I couldn't cut anything without chatter. There had been no chatter with the 4 way post, so I looked at the tool post and the t-nut carefully and finally figured out the problem, I could slide the tightly clamped t-nut right out of the compound!
