Okay guys so after looking at that Jet lathe a few weeks ago I may have come across a much better machine. This is from an older gentleman's estate and is in perfect working order. Please let me know a rough value and any information you may have on what model this is.

No idea on value? However that cabinet seems priceless, I would love that kind of storage with mine! I would have to repaint it though, I'm not that much of a JD green fan. Good tractors but I don't want everything that color.

Another one getting an hernia from those heads stacked on the bed!
Like that cabinet. That's a single lever gear box, not a deal breaker, just indicates that it's an older lathe. Generally speaking, looks nice.

...and the tail-stock is holding on by its' toe-nails. (.....or maybe should be "foot-stock"?)

So it's a 10-inch, if you had the serial number (stamped on top-front of right-hand end of bed; right under that tailstock) you could look it up for year shipped.

The cabinet is a plus, but condition of v-ways and head bearings also needs to be known.
Sorry I am no help for value either.

I am going to look at this thing tomorrow, it looks pretty long maybe 48''? Any certain things to look for?

It's an under drive. The cabinet is nice you will need a thread dial ,but it doesn't look too bad. other than the green paint. See if it runs and how it sounds. Oil it up first I don't think it has been run in a while.

This is a single tumbler model. This is pre-war and pre-flame hardened beds.

Check the spindle diameter. If it is 1-7/8" it is a 10R, like mine, and collets/chucks etc will be hard to come by. If it is 2-1/4" then it is a 10L and tooling will be much cheaper.

As a result the 10L is worth more than a 10R.

If you cannot get the chuck off measure the spindle hole diameter. If it is a tad over 1" you have a 10R.

I have a similar single tumbler 10R and it is a great lathe.

One more thing.

If you need metric threading, the hardware needed to convert a single tumbler south bend are very rare and expensive.

The later double tumbler models require a couple of gears and shifting things around on the banjo. But this one does not have a banjo. So to convert you need a banjo and gears. In several years to looking I have only seen one for sale and it sold for more than $500.

Much easier to convince yourself you do not need to cut metric threads.
