suitable steam engine for a tricycle.

Coles Power Models used to peddle a casting set called the "Vesuvius" that was designed to power a bicycle (It's currently showing as not available). I think they also sold the plans separately at one time. The plans, at least, might be worth seeking out - rather than trying to re-invent the wheel.

I am building a locomobile type engine, scaled up from a Live Steam article.
It has been a lot more work than I expected, but is turning out well.
I have thought of putting it on a bicycle or small tractor.
I have been documenting the build on the HMEM FORUM

Actually,a clutch is handy, not a auto plate type, just a dog clutch for a free engine......allows the engine to be heated thru before taking off. .....

Never having thought about rotary engines I had a look.
I never realised there had been so many designs put forward over the years.

Interesting but way too many problems with sealing and overall general inefficiencies.

Haven't you git enough on your plate already? For engine size have a look at the little scale steam trains that hauk a bunch of people around on a scale track at the park, they are tiny. It all depends on pressure, small engine = more pressure, big engine = less pressure. Can't help, you with flash boilers tho. even the name sounds dangerous. however the concept sounds like fun. Enjoy.

Hi Bob, did you look at the date this thread started?
