Hi,
Is there a special type of surface plate apparatus used to hold a test indicator?

Mike

there are other types as well that can be used, Starrett made a long t slotted base with an adjustable column, B&S also., but as Jim said, most of the time, a surface gage is used.

Is this what you are talking about? I’ve had it for years; use it a a stand for the magnetic bases. I’ll look it up in the Starrett catalogue but it never occurred to me it’s use other than as an indicator stand.

Yes, that is what I have now, a surface gauge. Just wanted to make sure I was using the right equipment.

Thanks everyone.
Mike.

Yes that is the one, with acessories they can be used for testing machine tool square and dovetail way alignment.

Tom Lipton, OxTool, did an excellent video on refurbishing and testing surface plates and on building a Repeat O Meter

I’m just starting the “Repeat O Meter”. I picked up an autocollimator but apparently need the Repeat O Meter as well.
