Here is my technique for making balls handles:



And I use this trick to align the balls for finish machining of the end. One the ball is clamped in the chuck, I back out the tailstock and unscrew the shaft.

What forehead slapping moment seeing the use of a rotary table as a ball cutter! I’ve got several of the small 3” RT’s. I already made a ball cutter but man I wish I would have seen this before!
