Technique using hand held tooling on metal lathe.

Be careful when starting out. The tool must be shaped like the gravers in the pictures. If a standard turning tool shape is used, and the flat portion is touched to the work, it won't chatter, it will grab. This leads to all sorts of undesirable and potentially dangerous things happening. Try it out with aluminum or plastic first.
 
Ages ago I recall seeing hand held cutting tools being used on a metal lathe. I just cannot recall the name of the technique.
Anyone know what this is called? Maybe it doesn't actually have a name?
