A couple of years back, there was this thread (http://www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/cleaning-a-surface-plate.26893/) about cleaning surface plates. In that thread, Savarin said the following:
Savarin, would you be willing to take the time to put together a simple video or slideshow that shows how this device is made and used? I think it would be a wonderful exercise and would be very educational.

It does, markedly.
Next time your down we will get the ronchi/foucault tester out and you can see how much a lightly placed finger raises the surface as well as see the heat waves coming from said finger.
Such precision from a home made device cobbled together from scrap and two ultra cheap chinese micrometers.
