I am in the process of replacing the spindle bearings on my Enco Mill/Drill and am considering giving it a fresh coat of paint. I do not want to strip the old paint and would appreciate suggestions on how to prep it. I do not want to make a big job of this just clean and paint.

Main thing is to degrease it so the paint will stick. I like to use Coleman fuel (white gas) for that, but you could use alcohol
or something else that evaporates clean without leaving an oily residue
Acetone might be too strong and strip the existing paint
I've had good results with Rustoleum brush enamel if the weather is not too cold

Wash it down with lacquer thinner.
Use a brush to get into all the nooks and crevasses.
It will get it really clean and etch the old paint so the new paint will stick.
It is how we do tractors.

I hit my asian lathe with some carburetor cleaner to soften some grease, and the paint softened and bubbled straight away. Be careful with what you use.
