I knew I was lost when I had run off the map... true story...

I am so happy now having a GPS....

If you don't or can't update your maps, you can find yourself without effective navigation. GPS will show you out in a field, or woods, which is what it was when the map was last updated. Remember in the beginning days of cell phone nav and running out of the cellular coverage zone. Navigation system stopped navigating. Fortunately, found where I was looking for after 15-20 minutes or so. Had to backtrack/dead recon to get home again. Had one of the kids with me, so had to just pretend that I knew what I was doing, didn't want her to think we were (slightly) lost. I mostly knew what I was doing, that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

In the old days, we rarely even had good maps. But it didn't stop me from keeping on driving in someplace new, just for the love of it, way back in the days of cheap gas...
