I have a couple of Shars tool maker's vises. They are beautifully machined however the adjusting mechanism sucks making it difficult to use. There have been threads about the same problem . This was my repair. The original part is so sloppy the round locking bar would fall out of alignment. The new part was made to takeout the slop and keep everything aligned. I hate metric so I made all screws Imperial. did I mention I hate metric?

I'm sure you made a world of difference with that new pin nut! I bought a small vice like this awhile back and the internal machining was so bad it was practically unusable. Like you, I made a new nut, switched over to Imperial, and have been using it without issue ever since. All the surfaces on mine checked out within .0002" but it's as if they had the janitor make the internals with a hand drill...
