treath cutting

i sometimes that it is cut without the grove on a non cnc machine
how do they stop always on the same spot and then far enuff to not hit the sholder
on my sheldon i got a cheap dro but i can not retract the cutter that accurate
wil it be easyer with a dail indicator ?

Stop the spindle near the end of the thread, leaving the half nut engaged, and finish the thread turning the spindle by hand.

I think the only answer or at least I do, is good eyes and quick reflexes. Just throw off the half nut where you
want to end the thread, It will only make a ring there. I think thats what you mean. Myself I dont use any dro's
or indicators, there is just too much going on to look at another thing. As going to shoulders, we alway use a
parting tool (there) down to the thread root or close to it.
