I was facing some aluminum stock the other day and it left an ugly nib in the center. "That's weird. I know I centered the tool." So I added a shim and did it again. Same thing. Same size nib! What in the world? Added ANOTHER shim without thinking further and it barely did any better. I finally just filed it off, then went to change the angle of the tool holder to turn down the diameter and found that I had never locked it. It made a lot more sense. And somehow the tool was now about 2 shims above center.
