Way Covers on a Lathe

I know Stefan Gotteswinter used cow leather for his new lathe. I doubt though he does heavy work producing very hot chips.
I also don't like the idea of losing my micrometer bed-stop.

I know were talking lathes but I have leather on the operator side of the saddle for the knee on my Bridgeport. Leather is smooth side up grain facing ways. I had thought the grain would get swarf stuck in it and for that purpose the smooth side has worked great. The one draw back with the leather is it soaks up the oil from the ways and my piece of leather is soaked with oil. It's really slimee only been on there maybe a yr. I do like the fact it folds easily very manageable

100 horse spindles do make some large blue chips, even with flood coolant at 300+ inches per minute
