Way oil

There's a local lubricant supplier who sells their own formulation of way oil. It seems that a lot of the machine shops buy it. It's not much less than vactra, but you can buy smaller quantities, and you can just will-call it at the desk during business hours. It's probably OK. To tell the truth, I use the Mobil Vactra 2 and cannot tell the difference with respect to stick slip or tacifiers. I apply it to the ways at the beginning of every machining day unless it is just a 15 minute session and I just applied it the previous day. It still lasts a long time.

Ahh, so I'm blending the bar oil with the SAE 68 hydraulic oil?

Bar chain oil or stp. Either has the tactifier in it.
Yep. Bar and chain oil is what I use. Less than 10 bucks a gallon from the local farm and home store. I hadn't though of STP though. I'll remember that for next summer when it gets hot in my shop.
