What is It?????

Due to my ignorance or stupidity, not sure which, I need some help identifying the attached photo.
This was in a machinist tool box that I acquired. It has Y-40 stamped on one side and YS&S Co. on the other.
I am guessing it is a gague of some sort!

I have sceen spring retainers that look like that on older switches and such. Just a thought.

It is a Goetz pay telephone token circa 1914.

Did this machinists chest come out of Chicago by chance?

The box was in Texas, but some time in the past a previous owner could have been in the area. I do not know the history but a lot of the tools and equipment were very old.

You are correct it did have Goetz on one side of the token!
