Dan --- now you have my undivided attention. I want to see how you are going to make this idea work. A banjo is a banjo. To make gear changes something must move. If you get this to work you will have all kinds of new friends. Maybe even a spare income. Go for it.

It's nothing magical Bill, conceptually its just a shoulder bolt, that is of the right diameter and length. When it gets screwed in, the shoulder bottoms out and locks the shaft in place, and the gear carrier will just turn on the shoulder.
