I burned up my 4 1/2 here while back and wound up getting a new one. I had the same problems the older and cheaper one had a better feel and grip to it than the new and better one. Although at least I think the bearings and gears will actually last longer. On the cheaper ones I have taken the head apart and put better grease in them to make them work better. The last two burned the bearings out, and so I went with a big name brand. Think mine is Porter Cable but think most of the name brands are now prob made in the same factory.

Yeah, after about 20 minutes of moderately heavy use I noticed it was getting hotter than usual so it was probably time to give it a break. As I went to hang it up I saw the area at the base where my arm had been blocking, with the flames shooting out. They stopped as soon as I unplugged it. No other damage done to anything, but I left it in the driveway for a while to make sure. Now it's scrap copper wiring and little more, and maybe there is some infrequent use for the gear head someday??

Porter-Cable has been owned by Stanley Black & Decker since around 2000 if memory serves. They also own DeWalt and many others. Most likely there are many parts in common across those lines.

Similarly TTI owns Milwaukee and Ryobi power tools (NOT Ryobi industrial which is a serious brand), and they make and distribute the power tools for Ridgid but don't own them.

Get a Bosch grinder, never had issues with mine, Milwaukee is also really good

Got a combine running.
Something about a broken shaft!
Needed to mill some flats on each end of a 40inch 1.25inch shaft.
Flats needed to be mostly parallel to each other in order for the thing to work.
Couldn't tell you more than that. All I know is that he was very pleased!
There is some reward in knowing that I was helpful in facilitating a mans annual income.

Expensive is right. I'll just let Mother Nature do mine for free.
A plastic drum with some holes drilled in it some 2"x4"s and some steel pipe or rebar for an axel will do the same thing.

My project of the day yesterday was prepping the new machine for it's its new home, mainly removing the Z motor and cable track. I had to remove the fir additions for the garage door and cut the garage door header out in the center. Don't worry the building header is perfectly intact. Also a little teaser of some tools loaded up. The machine is still about 6inches higher than installation height. Gonna have to convert my door.......

With that much forklift, you could have picked up the building, put the Machine in its spot, then put the building back!

Simple repair to get my 'chip' fix this weekend as it seems to have been awhile since I started up the lathe.
The rollers on a plastic crate had broken so I turned up some replacements out of aluminum.

you could have gone one better and done the roller on a shaft, that way it did not ware on the plastic. or even done a shaft with a bearing of some kind. Hey it looks good and got to use your lathe thus a plus.
Or those could be revisions that you can plan so you get more time in the shop.
