Here are a few more random pictures of various items not shown earlier.
Accessories plus a tooling drawer, an indicator mount for a spider that goes in the outboard end of the spindle and a 1” dia piece of brass that was the first cut.

Also pics of the digital tach and pick up mounting. It works great and was super easy and cheap to build - also accurate (off by 1 rpm from the data plate 304). I may replace it with a Tachulator if I can get one.

Your rebuild of your lathe is impressive to say the least.
I'm just getting underway on my SB heavy 10 work and I believe my machine is in fairly good condition from what I have experienced so far,but once I get deeper in I'll know for sure.
I'm very much looking forward to becoming enlightened by the experience of the job.
Knowing the intricacies of the workings of a machine gives a much better understanding and appreciation of it than just knowing how to use it.
I'm going to study the book that comes with the rebuild kit before I do anything.

I'm wondering how much of your lathe is really original. The tailstock is not. I also do not believe that bronze bearings were available on any machine made during the war, but instead the spindles ran on segmented CI bearings. This makes me think that your headstock is also not original.

I saw some info from a SB expert that said that the early style tailstocks (with the dauber) were equipped that way up to about Nov 1945 then they switched to the new style with one oiler & the graduated dial. Maybe this is correct??
