Back in the saddle again, the reloading saddle

I've been enjoying the CZ pistols lately. Their pro shop kit is under $2k for a rig, compared to the 1911/2011 platforms that peak around $6k for some unknown reason. I went with the SP01 Shadow for IDPA because it is the only competition grade pistol I like that makes the IDPA weight limit. The TSO2 is purely USPSA Limited division, purpose made for that and that alone.

Handsome looking rigs for sure. I really appreciate what CZ is doing. They are turning out quality products in many areas. Their 22 rifles are also top notch in my opinion

Since I'm thoroughly hijacking @Janderso's thread, here's an example of some of what I would consider smithing (removing metal) vs. bolting a kit together. I scratch-made a triple acting buffer for this guy, and found locking the bolt to the rear to be a little tough under spring tension. It locked to the rear on the last round (side-charging upper) but was too tough to do manually when on the line receiving instructions from a range officer. I cut a short travel bolt stop into the bolt that works a treat. I also went with a competition barrel, which is only rifled for 6" with a 10" welded bloop tube to make the NFA minimum. The barrel has an upper feed ramp like a 1911 that I had to relieve the bolt face for.

Buffer (best improvement ever), copied from TacCom but re-sprung and travel increased 1/2". My math is superior to theirs, apparently.

These are the bolt mods for this PCC. I am blown away by how well it performs compared to expensive stuff like JP and Sig.

This competition PCC is in it's 3rd incarnation. The only original part left on it is the upper receiver body.

Every competitive shooter needs a backup, so I went with a CZ. I don't want to know what I have into this one... Great shooter, but not nearly as fast as the AR9 above. In addition to pistols and rimfires, CZ makes a nice sub gun. This is a modern implementation, the parts fit tight so there is little room for improvement, but I managed to find a few opportunities.

This thread entices me to get back into the sport, but I have too many other things to do. I tend to go overboard with my hobbies. I started with a 550b like @pdentrem. Such a great press, but as I started shooting more and entering competitions, I acquired a 650 and then a 1050, with all three setup on my workbench along side an automated Case-Pro 100 with Dillon case feeder. The 650 and 1050 have case and Mr. Bullet feeders. I loaded 9, 40, 45 and 223 (Dillon's RT1200, of course.) This stuff has been in storage for many years now, along with tons of the now stupid expensive reloading supplies. I have tens of thousands of prepped cases among the calibers too. Maybe after I retire in a few years I'll get back into it.

I'll try to get a picture of my Python similar to @Eyerelief. Despite not being a fan of advertising my hardware, in addition to my STI, JP and Remington, I enjoy my old Winchesters and Colts with some S&W, Marlin and others mixed in. I badly wanted my uncle's 1886 Deluxe take-down, but it went to his kid - fair enough, but painful.

This is my favorite hand gun and according the the BATF it isn't even a gun.... it makes a pretty convincing case for itself though when you load itr up with 60 grains of powder....
Sweet! I have my great grandfather's Colt Navy, but it is not serviceable. My uncle, mentioned above, lived in Renton for many years, as most of our family, both sides, is from WA. He kept it in his attic and a roof leak rusted it. I keep it safe, but am reluctant to restore it. IDK, I just can't bring myself to further modifying it.

Yeah, its a heart break because evaporust will take care of the scale and a bit of blueing and oil thenyou can endoscope it to see if it is usable; but at that point you have messed with the historical and monetary value of it.... I feel your pain...

XDs were all the rage in the earliest years of the 2000s. A lot has happened in the industry since then, most notably Sig re-inventing itself and the Glock action patent expiring. There are literally hundreds of new designs out there. It's an interesting time in pistols, particularly carry pistols and compact designs. I don't think I've seen anyone shoot an XD in IDPA matches (where you would expect to due to the nature of the organization) for many years. I think they apexed with their exposed hammer XD-E, though putting exposed hammers on polymer guns is how you make a nice action feel spongy. Jeff, I bet you'd like the 2011 series. They're double stack 1911s and come in every flavor from 45 ACP, 10mm, 38 Super, and the most popular 9mm. New players came into the industry to kick companies like Kimber to the curb. Actually, Kimber has a super strong following, but nobody competes with them unless they're supplying guns and parts for free. But a whole new breed of 1911 variants are out there. Dan Wesson was bought by CZ, they're making a hybrid with the ergonomic and awesome CZ lower with a 1911 type slide that takes spec parts.

In the last 20 years, the gun industry has grown astronomically. I thought I knew a lot about guns, but there's so much new tech out there that I've become a mere keeper of outdated knowledge. Everything is a rabbithole, and they go deeper than ever.
Did I say, I have a CZ Rami in 40? I like it. Accurate as heck.

Yes, you can’t beat a CZ rimfire for the price point. Accuracy seems to be inherent.

I have enjoyed this post, quite coincidentally, I have been liquidating some reloading stuff since I haven't used it in some time. Got rid of about 40 firearms a few years ago, and basically quit shooting, hoping to get back to doing a little bit. 300 rnds of pistol practice was basically a normal weekend in the past. I remember when the Python hunter came out, I drooled all over the local counter! I must have one of those Walker's. Got this little machine awhile back, and the wife gushed over it so much, I had to relinquish ownership, Oh she will pay!
