POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

This probably isn't very clear from the pictures. Once the whole thing is together it may make more sense.

It's a custom RustyBolt-ImpactSocket-SubaruTimingIdlerPulley-LugNut-Recessed-Light-tumbler hub (fidget spinner).

It's drive hub made with spare/scrap junk for the tumbler project. Digging around the junk boxes, came up with a bunch of junk to make a drive hub for a 5 gallon bucket to make a the tumbler I've been trying to hack together. The concept started here when I stumbled across an aluminum recessed light.

And quickly morphed into a hex driven drive hub with this junk from the scrap bin.

And with a little turning, the rear bearing support, made from an old impact socket, lug nut, and subaru timing belt idler pulley.
The socket presses into the idler pulley recess.

This whole contraption should support the rear of the bucket. The front will be supported on two rollers.
Hopefully the gearbox drive, and shaft modification hold up (from earlier). I'll replace the small screws with some bolts or some big GRK screw once the geometry is settled.

Last thing to come up with is a flex coupling from the gearbox to the bucket. I'll probably start with some rubber hose clamped on the gearbox output and the rusty bolt hex drive. Don't really want to buy anything and the load should be pretty light so hose might be ok. It only has to last last a few weeks, and then will probably sit on the shelf forever.
I had to look back and search to find this. After seeing today's postings. Excellent idea using the recessed lighting shroud. Very cool.

Will you be turning it with fluid or dry?
 
I needed a stand for my small Craftsman Horizontal bandsaw. I had some 2x4’s left over from my garage door project. So I started clobbersmith stand.

The stand is all done. Tomorrow I will make the motor mount and wire it up. I will try and make a switch shutoff. I will also mount some razor scooter wheels on one end.

Interesting design feature — the lap at the top of the leg where the apron joins seems to be angled, or is that just the camera playing tricks? You’ll love the Razor wheels. I have four inline skate wheels under my bandsaw (one at each corner) and it’s so sweet to pull in an out.

Yes each leg is angled out 10 degrees from the side. I will mount the razor wheels on the inside of the legs. As the legs are angled the razor wheels will be perfectly fine with 10 camber. I need to turn up 4 spacers for the wheels. I will use some simple 5/16” wood screws to mount. I will also need to relieve some of the leg so it will not i interfere when I tilt it up to move.

I will use a simple door hinge as the pivot. I will be using a 3-1/2” x1/2” thick by 8” piece of aluminum to mount the motor. Then on the far end of the motor bracket there will be a 3/8”x6” long eye bolt as the tensioner. The stud part of the eye bolt will go through the longitudinal brace and tighten from the bottom.

I will post pictures of that tomorrow. I will need to purchase a toggle switch and a plug. Everything else I had laying around.

Plan so far is dry. Didn't seal the screw holes through the flange in the bucket.

It survived a few hours of running this through the rock. (Chain is wet, washed off the dust from tumbling)
First pass is to knock the coarse rust off. Chain is now in the evaporust.

Speaking of evaporust. Two of the four bottles are the normal yellow color. Two are water clear. Never seen that before. Hope that isn't a bad batch or something.
Anyone see evaporust clear with no tint before???
 
I'm wondering if I got taken on two of those gallons. Put some of the clear stuff in a small container with a test sample. If it doesn't work, I'm not gonna be happy...
