Show Me Your Milling Machine Chip Guards

Mine is a magnet but I don't mind it though. "Turn off" the magnet & the chips come right off. Works for me. I use it on the mill & lathe. On the mill I try to mill from right to left when possible so most of the chips fly back towards the wall. I prefer to use acrylic sheets instead of polycarbonate though. I also bought larger sheets from a local plastic supplier & swap them out when needed. This reminds me, I have parts to put together another one that I've been meaning to do.

How do you like your PM 12x36 ??
I would like to have a lathe that size.

I've been happy with it for being a Chinese lathe, hasn't gave me any problems. It's about 11-12 yrs old now. Matt at QMT has been nothing but a pleasure to deal with too. I bought my PM1236 & PM45 back when Matt did not offer any Taiwanese machines & I was too scared to buy used at the time not knowing what to look for in used machines. If he did have Taiwanese machines back then I probably would have bought one but then again I was already squeezing my budget at the time. I had originally purchased a PM1127 but changed my mind shortly after.

They are definitely not my "for life" machines, I'd like to upgrade someday but they've been serving me well & I haven't had the urge to upgrade (well not enough to actually start considering it). I'd like a 13x or 14x lathe & a full size knee mill but really my machines now have done everything I've needed capacity wise. If not a Taiwanese lathe from PM (waiting for newer offerings) I'd really like to have a old Mori Seki or Takisawa or one of the clones. But not sure I can fit one of those in my home garage.

Have you seen Ça Lem’s video restoring a Mori Seiki?

Nope, not yet. I'm subscribed to him but I don't want to watch that video yet in fear of what bad might happen to me. Well bad for my wallet. I'm trying to cut down on tool related purchases but that is very hard for me. Quitting smoking was much easier!

You know what works great? A polycarbonate water jug. You can get the large 5 gallon ones or tighter radius 2.5 gallon ones. Its nice to have that curve rather than a flat sheet..

I bent up a couple pieces of scrap sheet metal and 3D printer a few T-nuts and knobs to attach it to the table. I clamp clamp a piece of card board on the front during long runs. Eventually I’ll get around to making some type of door...

Great Topic
As I just scratched out my first chips on my new mill yesterday, I now understand the dilemma.
I want one of those Krispy Kreme masks!
