01 MB W210 (White elephant No.3)

Today i drove this project in the big garage. And started taking it apart and assessing, found a big hole in the drivers wheel well. The brakes are down to steel, also the radiator support is broken and the radiators are flapping in the wind. So i drain the coolant, it was clear water then remove the intake piping to make room and pull out the radiator and fan. The intercooler is dripping oil but to remove it the front bumper needs to come out. Also took off the back seat and found one of the airbag sensors broken off.

Happy new year everyone. Today i continue with taking apart this car, yesterday i had trouble taking apart the AC lines because they are bent up. But with a bit more effort they come apart, then the front bumper come off and the headlights. The big surprise come with the intercooler and its pipe, couple of liters of black oil come out and made a mess of my floor. The broken radiator support is pretty bent up and there is bad repair on the passenger side, also a big rust hole on the drivers side, all fixable but there is so much dirt still that i can't apply undercoating when i repair it. So the new plan is to disassemble it a bit more and drive it out and pressure wash it again till is spotlass.

Just needs a little spit & polish. Happy New Year! Mike

No amount of spit shine will deal with those rust holes. Today was a warm day 15 degrees C (60 f), so i drove this elephant for a good wash. I use my pressure washer and two more oven degreasers, as you can see i lifted the front side to side with the wheels off and removed the wheel liners and washed the inner fenders. There is lots more rust holes to fix and i found a weld patch on the passenger side. With it now clean i'll fix all the rust in the front and undercoat it also i may do something about the front bumper.

Today i spent some time working on the w210. Started with cutting out the rust, with it out there wasn't much left. The fender was wiggling because there was no structure left. I used 40x4mm flat steel to make the structure then connected the sheet metal with 1,5mm thick steel. This car has thinner metal then the little niva. I also had to weld up a hole in the inner fender. The big hole in this piece is for the dryer for the A/C. With all those pieces welded up this side is very sturdy. I have to buy some seam sealer to seal all the welds before under coating. Last process i've done is to apply some anti rust acid to neutralise the rust. At this stage i plan to deal just with the rust in the front end, it will need rocker panels and the trunk has few holes.

Today was a long day working on this car. Started early by applying seam sealer on all the welds. 3 hours later i spray all the patches with rubberised undercoating. Then i did some masking, wipe down everything and shot some paint. The passenger fender has a sticker and its made in 2016 so how ever had this thing before managed to crash the same wing in less then a year. I also painted the inside of the wing and you can see some of the undercoating in the front inside of the wing.

After few days of work non stop i have few hours a day so i can finish some of my projects. Started with using every spare minute to put it together, and in no time cooling system i put together, filled with new coolant. I blocked the oil supply to the broken turbocharger and did not connect the charge pipe. Then i installed the passenger fender i had to re drill the mounting holes taiwanese fender the mounting holes don't line up and previously someone just tack welded it in place. Then come the headlights, inner fenders, front bumper and last but surely longest took the central locking. It needs to be lockable but the locks don't work with the button or the key fob. So i took out and take apart the module under the back seat. Fixed few bad solders clean lots of corrosion from water. Reinstalled it it started to make noise but still would only unlock the doors, being a mercedes must be safety related. Went door to door and figured it thinks the passenger door is open all the time. Little plastic trim is missing so i substitute it and the locks started to work fine on the button but the key fob was still broken. So after 2 hours cleaning resoldering and changing switches i got it to work as it should. With the doors closed i try it and it work as it should. Then i got the front end down from jack stands and on the ground. I plan to drive it out and leave it to wait for the next stage, first i need to finish the littel niva.
