1/4-28 grease zerk tap?

I have regular 1/4-28 taps. Do I need a special tap for a 1/4-28 tapered thread zerk?

Depends on the thread size and pitch of the zerk. They are not all the same. Measure them and check for a taper as some are NPT.

I think an ordinary tap would work fine, not rocket science.

I use a normal 1/4 - 28 tap when I add grease zerks to mower spindles when I rebuild them. It works for me.

Most zerks I have seen are tapered so a standard 1/4"-28 should be fine
