I came across a wonderful find on CL.
a gently used 1979 Boyar-Schultz H618 surface grinder.
this unit was purchased new by the previous owner and saw a good life.
we pulled the table off and i inspected the ways, the ways are very nice indeed with only the very faintest signs of wear.
the oil flaking is impeccable, i'm just sorry i didn't snap a picture at that time.
the table was replaced and i was pleasantly surprised when he said there was some extras with the unit...

i almost broke my thumb reaching into my pocket, to get the money before he changed his mind :grin big:
there were 52 grinding wheels of different flavors, including 2 diamond wheels(one old- one very new), wrenches, diamond truing nibs, and a couple arbors.

Here is Hortense, in all her glory!

I was hearing this “you suck” all the way over from the Altamont! Now I know where it was coming from! Good Job! You will wonder how you ever got along without it!

What, no Neutrofier?
No sir, it has a Electro-Matic chuck controller :)

Mike,
You got a screamin’ deal!

I’ve been corresponding with Mikey on adding a little positive lead to my new Borite cobalt boring bars. I was thinking of manually stoning them on a diamond plate, but a surface grinder might work better. :encourage:

Congrats on your purchase. I’m happy for you.
E

Holy Cow, Mike - that is a screaming deal on a really nice machine!!! Congratulations on yet another awesome acquisition.

Hawaii is a beautiful place to live but it just totally sucks for finding deals on used machine tools. Color me jealous!!

Hi Mark,
Thank you very much.
After seeing your little beauty, i started to become more serious about finding a surface grinder. I found 3 examples under $2500.
The unit i ended up with is the best of the 3.
The old owner was very easy to deal with and he set the price- i was shocked and amazed and didn’t even dream that I get such a nice machine
