Haven't done much in a couple days, but today I decided to make a place to store my lathe tools since I am getting a few more from Santa :))

lathe tool rack.jpg It's not fancy , but does the job well. They are right above the lathe in easy reach.

Found a chunk of cast iron and whittled out the housing that holds the two piece nut. Hopefully can get the shaft straightened enough to use to cut the new one.

Still a couple of holes to locate for the ratchet that adjusts the one nut and dowel pins that lock the other half.

From Santa:
Not knowing what I need, my wife gave me cash to buy what ever I want. We're going to a used machinery dealer tomorrow. I'm thinking a 4 or 6 jaw chuck, or a pallet jack. I'll post what I buy.

The jaw faces=5", jaw depth=3 7/8", jaw opening >6" and weigh around 40#.
I generally get around 200$ for a quality, restored vise around that size. New, they go for around 600$.
Shipping probably would be prohibitive. All my stuff sells through CL or word of mouth.

those are some awesome vices. i have a 5" with 11 inch opening and deep throat and i have used it as a press many times. it weighs in at 68 lbs and worth every penny of the $895 price tag.
yours would be a heck of a deal for someone at that price. . . . . just saying. . .

Just a quick easy one today....drilled and tapped the bottom of an intake manifold to install some nitrous jets for my my friend's son's Honda.

He's a getting a built bottom end, head, tranny, nitrous, & Hondata ECU for Christmas. We pulled the motor last week & we're putting it back in Monday. Kid doesn't even know, he thinks he's just getting a new oil pan & hood repainted (which he is too). :lmao:

Today I made some extended axle for mounting tools on a small tractor.

I started by cutting some stock diameter 23 mm. This should have be 22 mm.

Then I turned it to 22 mm. Chamfered the ends and turned the trheads M 22 x1.5 mm.
Then drilled the hole and chamered it.
Then cleaned it up.

I mad 10 pieces as requested by my friend.
