2016 POTD Thread Archive

Mounted my Roper Whitney #218 4-ton press to the new sheet metal work bench and made some plywood organizers for my punches and dies. Haven't decided whether to just write directly on top of the plywood with a Sharpie to ID the sizes or print some labels. Will probably go with the Sharpie and use a label if things get moved. Also got most of my sheet metal shears, nibblers and similar stuff in the same intermediate tool box under the punch press.

Looking good there Bruce . Do you have a label maker ? If not, I bought one for $25 http://a.co/g6imSx7 and the labels hold up under oil/solvents. When I got it, I made 4 test labels, applied them then coated over each... cutting oil over the first one , WD40 over another, Acetone over the third one , and ATF over the last one . None had any effect ...the labels are still intact on the piece of metal .

Made some progress on my Tormach riser fixture plate. I made one for our Haas at work and its worked out so well I wanted one for home.

Took a few hours to figure out how to make these;

They're prototypes of adapter bits for a Yankee (type) screw driver, two different types. Meant for attaching a magnetic bit. At least that's what I'm told by the individual who requested them. Said he couldn't get them and wanted to know what they would cost to make. I think when I get the fixtures made it will only take twenty min.s to make one (based on making 10-12 at one sitting. (Turn Stock[if needed], part off, set up and set stops on mill, mill end, mill 45 deg angle, reset stop and mill index ) so if I do 12 it should bring the time down to a total of 4-5 hours or less.

On the another matter, Where's My Mill...O, There behind the vise.

Finally got the vise mounted to the swivel. Works well, at least I think so. Love it.

Thanks for the tip! Looks like my wife is getting another stocking stuffer!

Yeah...

Tom, you do know that you need to make a knurled nut for it now, right? Nice tool.

Design failure, it will only open to about a half inch. I have to open up the slot for the 10 24 screw.
