I've used Anchor Lube since the early 70's and it is my goto lube of choice for steel. I will occasionally use something else for special jobs. It's water based, so can cause corrosion. with that in mind, I always clean it up right away and it has never caused damage to any of my equipment.
IMHO, marks on machinery and tools are earned through their good service to us. They are badges of honor, not unlike medals that show their valor in battle
That's the beauty of owning older machinery. Unless you bought it new you can always blame the dings, scratches, stains, and other imperfections on the previous owner(s). If I ever did buy a new machine I would probably be disappointed the first time it got a ding. Even then it would have probably been a "manufacturing defect".
