I watched mechanics aline and balance helicopter blades.
For the balance a # 10 screw is in the outer end of the blades and very thin stainless washers are inserted under the screw as needed.
They will even file portions of a washer to reduce it's weight.
Once stopped at the hanger to visit the mechanics but everyone had left.
As I started out I noticed a little flat washer on the floor. Light hit it just rite. I made a note and taped the washer to it.
Later learned they had nearly gone nut's looking for that one washer. Having just had the turbine and gearbox out for inspection that washer had to be accounted for before they could put the machine back into service.
