I've tried many different cold blues, and settled on BC's Super Blue, applied to de-geased and warmed steel,
using small pieces of White or Gray Scotch Bright pads. That's the secret; way better results than steel wool.
The Scotch Bright blends the solution in without streaking in my experience. Oxpho Creme also works nicer with
SB pads. I've also heat blued hundreds of small parts, then dipped in oil.
