Converting TNMG insert sizes

Hi all

I have a couple of tool holders that take TNMG 321 inserts. I know these are older inserts that have been surpassed by modern designs, but I'd still like to use them.

I tried to convert the ANSI insert code (321) to ISO, to see if there were additional options available. I came up with TNMG 1603, but when I search for that it only brings up carbide shims for under a 1604 insert. I think the 1604 insert is thicker than a 321 insert (more like a 331), so I don't think it will work in my milling holder (a shars "little hogger" endmill).

Have I done the conversion wrong, or is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks

Lee

The 321 ANSI designation translates to ISO as 160304. So you're looking for a TNMG160304. A quick google search indicates they are made by a variety of manufacturers including Korloy, Tungaloy, SECO, Walter, etc. Have a look at this link.

Thank you! Not sure how I missed them first time around

Searching Ebay can pull up packs of insert with alternative part numbers. I've used it to convert from standard to metric(china) equivalent.
