I have seen the cork trick. I think my aunt used that! I do want to over-complicate it a little, you know, to impress the wife.
I was thinking something like this.
Got it done. Works well as designed. The final piece needs the dirt cleaned off of it (dropped it on the way into the house.)
1/16" 2-Flute end-mill from think and tinker. 35 IPM feed, 10,000 RPM. Four passes to make the 0.25" depth. (Two would have worked but I baby these little end mills.) I think I risked it a little by not having better work-holding for this slippery plastic but low forces and nothing moved, except for the back parallel.
