Thanks Superburban! In this pic, we look at the gear mesh. On the 1st section it is smooth. It is the 2nd section where the gear mesh binds up - Never even disassembled this portion. The quick way to solve this would be to just make a shim between the 2 sections.
All I really know at this point is the gear on the external part of the elbow needs to be retracted without messing up the mesh on the 2 portions seen above. Factory drawing for reference.
So, I slid the intermediate drive gear assembly out of the housing.
It dawned on me that I haven't had this apart. So, I studied the drawing again. But, the gear this drives in the head assembly has been apart. I'll start with adjusting that gear up & away from the drive gear until the binding issue is resolved.
Problem solved! The top nut on the spindle drive was adjusted to raise the last bevel gear. Now it is as smooth as a whole as the 1st section was to start with!
