Huanyang VFD odd behaviour

Truthfully, though, I can't understand them not doing a 24hr burn-in, but why they don't even do a smoke test, I can't grasp. A test fixture would cost a few dollars, and the test would take seconds on the unit's way into the box.

A lot can happen in crossing the pond. A hairline shot, a cold solder joint, etc. The unit could very well been working on a brief test in the factory only to fail en route. We had a high end coffee maker from a prestigious manufacturer that failed one day after many years of service. The problem was a cold solder joint at the input power connection. A fault like that would pass final inspection at the factory. Most consumers aren't like me and won't take an appliance apart to determine the cause of failure. It would just get tossed, chalking it up to our disposable society.
