I bought the Edge, brand a few months ago on sale.
I’ve been struggling with hitting the + 000 -002” on these stand offs for the Kant twist style clamps.
I decided to try out my new collet stop.
My god man, where has my head been?
So simple. I need six @.997 and 2@..787”
I nailed six with the other two at .0005” under

Where ya been man ? 5Cs ? How many you need ? :big grin:

Yeah, they're easy enough to make - and a lot cheaper, too! I use a jamb nut at the back to lock it in place. How does the Edge lock?

It's amazing how anyone could patent something that has been around for 50 + years ! I used to pop these things off on the cnc lathe in less than a minute and a half and pass them out to everyone .

I've got the Chinese version, works fine, dead simple device.

Mine isn't nearly so pretty, but the again it's about 40 years old. I think at one time it was blue. Today it's a mix of black and brown finger prints.

Yeah, 5C.
The kit comes with about 6 different size stops. They lock with a dog point allen screw.
You guys that have used these for years probably giggle and point at the new guy, but hay, I'm thrilled.
Learn something new every day.

I'm going to try to set it up to where I dial in to .313" on the OD and the inset/register is .105" depth.
Using the collet stop and two dial indicators, I'll burn up a couple samples to get it all set up.
The set up will probably take longer than it should :)
Cause, I'm clueless. In a good way!!

I use that type of stop when I do not need high accuracy, the issue with any collet stop system that attaches to the collet is that it dependent on the collet position when it is tightened. Apply more tension and you will be off a few thousandths. A lever collet closure system should be more repeatable but a chuck or threaded through the spindle tightening type will not. Only way to get parts that repeat more accurately is to use a through the spindle stop system if you are using a 5C chuck.

I’m sure you are correct, all the expensive proper 5C collet systems are what the pros use.
This job is a simple 8 part and done.
This is the most repeatable/accurate work I’ve ever done.
I just finished the stand offs. They are within .001” of each other using my ghetto method.
(The part where the micrometer is measuring has a +.000 - .002”. I need .250”)
Yeah, I had a great learning day.
