Joining the Takisawa club!!

Good step. I found that slinging the lathe from the two bars, as shown in the manual, and lifting it with my HF 2 ton hoist worked surprisingly well and allowed very fine positioning.

I use CXA tool holders...seems just perfect. But I wish I had a faceplate for it.

Nice Takisawa, awesome set of tooling and change gears!

Orange primer is a trademark for Takisawa lathes. Okay, maybe not an actual trademark, but it is also the signature color of leaded chromate primers. Consider leaving it in place and painting over it, or using chemical strippers only if you decide to take it down to bare metal.

Great find and quite a haul you've procured.

Thanks! I got some good misc stuff as well. If i do repaint i probably won't go all the way down to Bare Metal. I don't want to have to redo all the Bondo work.lol

Cleaned out the sump yet? My best analogy: it's like being handed a pair of rubber gloves and being told to clean out a portapotty, with no hose...

Did you use body filler after stripping it, or just accept how it would look. I can't tell from the pictures how smooth the finish is. And how on earth did you get rid of ALL the oil and grease? Seems like that stuff would have soaked into the existing filler and been impossible to get out completely.
