More "rake " questions

Be aware that the lathe may be limited by size and power as to how much of cutting radius you actually use. Just imagine trying to push the a full 1/4" or even 1/8" radius through a cut with a small lathe. The point is that you can't use the full radius and hence all the effort to getting the other angles won't matter much if you only cut with the radius.

Generally radius on small lathes are going to work better if smaller (if you want't actually cut with the sides)

I highly recommend you read the model tools thread. All your questions are answered there.

OK that makes things simple. all that i care about is the finish.
Most of us finish with some abrasive cloth to get the last few tenths off, this also improves the finish so don't worry about the finish too much.

The side rake angle must clear the feed / rev angle or lead angle. Too steep & it will rub - too sharp and the tool life suffers.
