Motor shaft repair

and yet another to straighten sheet metal.

I got the JB weld steel reinforced epoxy

or should I turn it down a lot more and make a sleeve

Do not remove material.

If you can put the shaft in your lathe knurl it!

Get is setup between centers or in a 4 jaw.

Dial in the shaft so it is dead nuts centered.

Knurl the area to raise the material up.

Now verify still running true and centered.

Take very light cuts to get it close to size.

Check for bearing fit for a press fit and shoot for that.

When finished and you are sure of size, heat the bearing, mix a batch of epoxy and apply to the cleaned shaft then press on the bearing, the epoxy may act as lubrication.

Carefully clean any excess and let cure for a few days.

I just did that with the input shaft to a worm drive transmission. It was .625 diameter. I built it up with weld and yeah, it warped .050". I straightened it out on a shop press to within .005". Then I took a roller finger out of my steady rest and put it in a boring bar holder. Next I put the unwarped section in a 4 jaw and took the wobble out of the part sticking out by pressing the roller against the shaft as it spun. Got it to .001".
